If you download torrents and you get crappy speeds let's say you can't even hit 1Mbit/s it possible that you need to open ports in the router / client, but it could also be because the peers are snubbing you, (And i have my vpn active when downloading this iso) What you need is a good connection to the peers, and obviously you need to have high bandwith.
Actually there doesn't have to be many peers connected to get really high speeds like i got when i downloaded this ubuntu-20.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso just a few min ago from here It certainly is fast, but because the download speed often is limited by how many people are seeding, torrent clients can tend to have to keep running in the background for prolonged periods of time to complete those slowest downloads so, I prefer to choose the most lightweight (system resources consumption profile) solution that also is perfectly stable, and that doesn't make the cooling fan get loud while I am trying to listen to nice quality stuff through a good pair of big floorstanding speakers.
